The report, entitled How Global is the Business of Retail, analyzes 334 leading retailers in 61 countries. The report suggests that the Canadian retail market recorded fewer new entrants last year than the year before...

By Saul Carliner

This is my new favourite mall in Montreal, which is saying a lot because other malls in the area like Carrefour Laval and Quartier Dix30 have significantly upped their game in the past year.

But the late 2013 additions of Simons and Target prompted transformations throughout the mall. Hudson's Bay - once one of the dowdiest in the chain—to transform itself into a chic La Baie d’Hudson and carve space for Topshop/Topman within the building...

Mall parking lots to be paved with solar panels?

A potentially revolutionary invention could see mall parking lots, as well as streets and other ground surfaces, paved with solar panels. Its inventors say that the technology will pay for itself, not to mention be beneficial to the environment.

Solar parking lots (and streets) could do the following:

Luxury retail in Toronto: plenty of room for growth

By Karim Rashwan

Can Toronto support all of its recently announced luxury retail? Holt Renfrew is expanding its Bloor Street store, building a new 120,000 square foot Mississaga unit, and has recently completed an expansion and renovation of its Yorkdale Shopping Centre location. Yorkdale, itself, has created a world class luxury wing, welcoming first-to-market retailers such as Bulgari, Moncler, Jimmy Choo and Versace. Moreover, Toronto's Yorkville area will soon boast Canada's only Kiton store, while pricey international brands David Yurman, Christian Dior, Bulgari and others seek space in the Bloor Street area. Saks Fifth Avenue will also open at least two Toronto stores in the next two years, contributing to an unprecedented luxury retail boom in Canada's largest city.
